| Howdy Manco!!
Actor Roy Engel began his career in 1943 and his career spanned through the 70's. He was the original Sky King on the radio show. He appeared on most of the t.v. westerns popular during the 50's and 60's, like The Life And Times Of Wyatt Earp, Rawhide, Bonanza, Frontier Doctor and had a recurring role as the .Dr on The Virginian. He also appeared in Spartacus, Viva Las Vegas and It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World. He is proably best remembered for his roles in several low budget sci-fi films, such as The Man From Planet X, and Kingdom Of The Spiders.
Scott Brady went to Hollywood, because of his 2 brothers, Lawrence and Edward Tierney, who were already playing "bad guys" in films. His career took off in the film, He Walked By Night, as a Detective. He appeared in The Law Vs Billy The Kid, Johnny Guitar, Montana Queen, Red Tomahawk and many other films, before taking on the role that he will be best remembered for, as the star of the 50's t.v. series, Shotgun Slade. His gimmick was the over/under, rifle/shotgun that he used on the series. After the series cancelled, Brady continued to appear in films like, The China Syndrome, Gremlins and as tough cops, bartenders etc, through the 80's.
Maurice Jarre was a musician, who became a famous Hollywood composer of movie themes. He won 3 Academy Awards for his music in Lawrence Of Arabia, .Dr Zhivago and Passage To India. He also worked on Gorrillas In The Mist and A Walk In The Clouds.
You will need a photograph to remember Norman Alden. He began his film career in 1957 and appeared in almost every show on t.v. for nearly 50 years. He had 2 recurring roles, as Johnny Ringo on The Life And Times Of Wyatt Earp in the 50's and as Captain Horton on Rango, during the 60's. Once you see his face, you will remember him for the many roles he played during his career. He generally played heavies, like Johnny Ringo and on shows like The Untouchables, but will probably be best remembered for the series of commercials, in which he appeared as "Joe", the mechanic for AC Delco. A talented actor, who always brought quality to any role he played.

| Ed, I always recognized Norman Alden by his voice. Back in the '70s, Alden provided the voice of Aquaman on the Saturday morning cartoon The Superfriends. Years later, I'm watching an episode of Gunsmoke, and I heard the voice, and immediately exclaimed "That's Aquaman!" And the actors's character shot Matt Dillon in the back! I found out his name from the credits, 25 years after The Superfriends debuted!
Also today:
Richard Kiel (1939), the 7' 2" actor best remembered as the steel toothed villain Jaws in the James bond movies, appeared as monsters or henchmen in various TV shows, including Laramie, The Rifleman, Gilligan's Island, The Man From UNCLE, and I Dream of Jeannie. He played Miquelito Loveless' assistant Voltaire in 3 episodes of The Wild Wild West, Moose Moran on 14 episodes of Barbary Coast, and originally cast as the Incredible Hulk, but was let go because the producers wanted someone more muscular and hired Lou Ferrigno. | |
