Howdy Manco!!

Allen"Rocky" Lane began his film career in the 1929 film, Not Quite Decent, but after no initial success, he left Hollywood in 1932 and didn't return for about 4 years. In 1936 he co-starred in the film, Stowaway with Shirley Temple. In 1938 he appeared with Joan Fontaine in Maids Night Out and in 1939 he was cast in Twelve Crowed Hours with Lucille Ball. Seeking better roles, he signed with Republic Studios in 1940 and in 1944, he hit it big with the film series, Tiger Woman and the Mountie Dave King Series of films. It was in 1944, he starred in The Silver City Kid and his western career took off. He followed this up with Sheriff Of Sundown, The Trail Of Kit Carson, Oklahoma Badlands, Carson City Raiders and Sundown In Santa Fe and a host of others. Between 1944-1953, Lane appeared in over 50 of these western B-films. He also took on the role of Red Ryder in the 1951-1956 t.v. series. After the series canceled, Lane started making guest star appearances on many of the 50's and 60's western t.v. series, like Tales Of Wells Fargo, Gunsmoke, Bronco, Colt .45, Cheyenne and from 1958-1966 he was the voice of .Mr Ed, on the t.v. series of the same name. A role I understand, he was not too impressed with. Lane retired shortly after the series cancelled and in October of 1973, Allen "Rocky" Lane passed away. He and his horse" Blackjack", will always be remembered as one of the hard ridin, hard fightin, fast shootin matinee cowboys, along with Hopalong Cassidy and Topper, Gene Autry and Champion, and Roy Rogers and Trigger.

Ed

Also today:

Paul Le Mat (1945-) won a Golden Globe Awards, first for his role as hot rodder John Milner in George Lucas' American Graffiti, and later for the TV film The Burning Bed, and was nominated for the film Melvin and Howard. He's married to Suzanne de Passe, the executive producer of Lonesome Dove and it's sequels and prequels, and played Josiah Peale in Lonesome Dove: The Series and Lonesome Dove: The Outlaw Years.
