| Howdy Manco!!
Wallace Beery first appeared in silent films, but transitioned to the talkies extremely well. He was one of the biggest stars in Hollywood during the 30's and 40's. He appeared in over 250 films total. He won his Academy Award for the film, The Champ, with Jackie Cooper. He also played the role of Long John Silver in Treasure Island, the best of any actor I've seen. He played the role of Pancho Villa in the film Viva Villa, but after drunkenly urinating off a balcony onto some Mexican viewers, he kinda lost some his appeal to them!!!!!
Ned Glass was another excellent character actor during the 50's, 60's and 70's. He 1st appeared on the Red Skelton show, then as Sgt. Andy Pendleton on the Phil Silvers show. He had a good part in West Side Story and in Kid Galahad with Elvis Pressley and in Disney's Love Bug. He made a living playing cowardly, weasley fellas.
Actor John Quade usually played villains in his films and t.v. appearances. He was part of the Clint Eastwood stock of actors, appearing in The Outlaw Josey Wales and High Plains Drifter, but he was equally adept at playing comedy. He played the leader of the mortorcycle gang, The Black Widows, in Eastwood's Any Which Way You Can and Any Which Way But Loose. He also appeared with Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman in Papillon.

| John Quade, who was a very religious person in real life, played some of the nastiest varmits that ever rode across the west in his "reel" life. | |

| April 1 is also the birthdate of the great, great, great Japanese star Toshio Mifune (1920-1997). As far as I can see he was in just one Western, Red Sun, with Charles Bronson, Ursula Andress and Alain Delon. But his importance to the Western genre and its fans can be traced to his roles in Seven Samurai, the inspiration for The Magnificent Seven, and Yojimbo, which Sergio Leone remade as A Fistful of Dollars. Would Clint Eastwood have become a superstar without that role? | |

John Quade was a very religious person just as Tom has said. I was in his Sunday School class when I lived in CA. Very knowledgeable man in the word. Hard to believe he played such a nasty varmit in movies. Really only met him once or twice when I visited the church he attended. | |
