Hi Pards,

Hope all  is well with you all!

Have some news I was just reading that I do think will interest you all.

Rio Tinto restoring old TV series ‘Death Valley Days’
40 years after the final broadcast, Death Valley Days returns to television, thanks to Rio Tinto’s Dr. Williams Adams.

P.S.
This is the sad part:
At that point, Rio Tinto had no plans to market or distribute the series, making the restoration effort “very much about their corporate legacy and the series’ important part in television history,” said Wystrach. “It’s only about American history,” he told the Lone Pine audience, noting each episode “is based on historical fact, a real person, or a tall tale” from the history of California and Nevada.
It is also one of the few television western series which accurately portrayed miners and prospectors, not as villains or despoilers of the environment, but as entrepreneurs who helped shape the history of the west and discovered what would become the Death Valley National Park visited by millions from all over the globe annually.

Sad   Would love to have the Death Valley Days in my library.

Howdy Sandy!!

Pard, a big thanks for posting this news about the restoration of the t.v. series Death Valley Days. I remember watching this great ole series as a child. It's a shame that Rio-Tinto has no plans to market the series at this point. Hopefully, they will realize just how marketable this series is after it's debut on The Western Channel. I will be looking forward to watching this wonderful series again in January!!

Wish they would put it out on dvd. That way the history of the American west as told by these stories could be seen and enjoyed by much larger audience. Hopefully some day it will.

I have a friend who is very active in all matters concerning Death Valley.  I sent him a photo copy of what was written in this years Lone Pine Film Festival program.  It said virtually the same thing as the link Sandy refers to.  I asked my friend to comment on the post(s) made on face book but he didn't in order to protect a few people that were formally involved in the restoration project.  Had those people remained in place, Death Valley Days would have already been restored and released on commercial DVD, as that was the original attention.  According to my friend, who I would trust with my life, just about everything contained in the Lone Pine Film Festival program as well as the link Sandy provided is a combination of half-truths and outright lies.  Bottom line, my friend thinks there will be another "shake-up" in the Rio Tinto barn, so to speak, and restoration with intention to market the finished project will get back on track.  I'll alert the forum if I hear anything further.  Bullfrog Bill
